Kuala Lumpur, 28 June 2023 – The Balvenie is a single malt of exemplary craftsmanship. Intricately handcrafted at every step – from the making of its casks to its liquid, The Balvenie is made with passion, creativity, heart and skill. In celebration of this, The Balvenie collaborates with local paper artist and sculptor Ceres Lau, to bring to life the pinnacle of the ultimate craftsmanship, that is evidently reflected in the making of The Balvenie DoubleWood 12, The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 and The Balvenie French Oak 16.
The Makers Project embodies The Balvenie’s values of ultimate craftsmanship, appreciating the passion, creativity, heart and skill needed to produce the exceptional craft. As a tribute to the shared unwavering passion and respect for ultimate craftsmanship, The Balvenie started a global campaign to collaborate and celebrate craftsmanship. This is strongly reflected in the core values of The Balvenie – craftsmanship takes skill. However, ultimate craftsmanship requires heart. The Balvenie perfectly embodies this, and as a result, stands tall as a product made by heart.

The Balvenie: A product of exemplary craftsmanship
Every whisky has its unique history, and for Speyside icon The Balvenie, it is one of prestige and pursuit. For close to 130 years, The Balvenie has stood tall on the whisky world stage. It is the only distillery where you will see every stage of the process, from grain to glass.
The Balvenie is also the only distillery with all five of the precious rare crafts. The barley growing and being harvested by the farmers in the fields next to the distillery. The floor maltings on site, where the raw barley is turned to malt by the team of Malt Men. The Coppersmiths, who craft and maintain the coppers. Finally, the team of Coopers who make and repair the casks vital for maturing The Balvenie, and turning it into beautiful amber liquid.

At the core of the entire process is David C. Stewart (MBE) – the longest serving, and most experienced Malt Master in the entire Scotch whisky industry, who has spent the past 60 years of his life dedicating his time and skills to crafting The Balvenie.
A Malaysian Craftsman: Ceres Lau
Ceres Lau is a paper artist and sculptor, with origins from the lush landscapes of Sarawak. Her work predominantly draws inspiration from nature, which fuels her artistic expression. Her fascination with paper is rooted in the infinite possibilities it offers. From this humble and seemingly mundane material, Ceres creates complex and beautiful forms, limited only by the breadth of her imagination. The transformation of paper into art is a process that she finds truly fulfilling, and it shows in the exquisite quality of her work.

The Balvenie’s collaboration with Ceres pays homage to Malt Master David C. Stewart’s legacy of six incredible decades, showcasing the importance of human touch and warmth behind their crafts. The unique installation titled “5 Rare Crafts and Craftsmen” celebrates the Farmers, Malt Men, Coopersmiths, Coopers and Malt Master.
“We are always keeping an eye out to collaborate with like-minded people who share our passion to create the extraordinary, and our partnership with Ceres Lau is a testament to this. We strongly resonate with her ideals for her brand, and are proud to provide consumers with this unique journey to step into a lifetime of memories and sample remarkable liquid made by heart through her unique craft,” said Brett Bayly, SEA Malts Brand Ambassador.
