Another Round of Fun with Disney x dUCk

He’s more than just a familiar face, he’s brought joy and laughter to young and old for decades. Chances are he accompanied you through your childhood, you’ve either watched him on television or worn something with his name or image on it. There aren’t many icons who transcend age, gender and cultural barriers, but he’s managed to do it all. He truly needs no introduction, because he’s Mickey Mouse!

The first instalment of Disney x dUCk saw us focus on the artistic side of Disney, with a tribute to hand-drawn animation. This time, for our third collaboration, I wanted to focus on the fun elements associated with the brand, and Mickey himself. Mickey’s impact on pop culture and the world is undeniable, so recognisable he is, that you’d know it was him from the silhouette of his head and ears. I’ve always adored the subtlety of it, and the fun of spotting Hidden Mickeys in Disney films, TV shows and theme park rides. It’s an immersive experience for a Disney fan, which I knew would play an important part in shaping the aesthetics of the limited edition Disney x dUCk – Mickey collection.

While playing around with the Hidden Mickey concept, I also added other signature elements of Mickey. His bright and vibrant colours set the tone for our design, embellishing each scarf with delicate plant and vine outlines amidst harmonious colours, thus creating a soft and graceful balance. It’s also a nod to the fact that while Disney films tend to feature whimsical elements like the Hidden Mickey, there are also more down-to-earth ones that ground us in reality. At first glance, you may wonder exactly where Mickey is, and therein lies the magic. You’ll really need to look closely to find him, but once you do and your eyes adjust, you’ll realize there’s more. He’s here, there and everywhere – oh boy! It’s all part of the fun that everyones loves about Disney, and I wanted to inject some of that in this collection.

The collection features eight print scarves (both Shawl and Square) in our Satin Silk fabric. It was important for Mickey’s personality to shine through even more, so you’ll find scarves called Caring, Adventurous and Mischievous, to name a few. These are some characteristics we can adopt in our lives, don’t you think? I reckon we can all learn a thing or two from Mickey.

After all let’s never forget, as Walt Disney himself said, “it was all started by a mouse”.
